Olympic Tri Gear

What Gear Do You Need?

Read below for more info

Triathlons can be daunting. Not just because you need to be relatively fit but because there are a few elements to learn and some equipment you will need.
We’ve compiled this post for beginners and as a reminder of what you will need on race day:

Necessary

Without these, you won’t be able to compete

  • Bike - One that’s roadworthy.

  • Bike Helmet - One that fits.

  • Wetsuit - Unless the water is super warm.

  • Goggles - To see where you’re going and to stop those eyes stinging.

  • Swimming Costume (or Trisuit) - To avoid embarrassment when you remove your wetsuit in transition.

  • Some Form of Top - Either as part of a trisuit, swim suit or just a t-shirt or vest.

  • The Willingness

Ideal to Have

You could get away without these but I’d recommend using them to make the race more comfortable

  • Running Trainers - But you can run in Crocs if you like.

  • Shorts with Padding - To save your butt!

  • A Drink - Especially if it’s hot!

  • Some Fitness

Would Be Handy

These things will make racing easier

  • Trisuit - Saves messing around in transition.

  • Watch With Timer - To know how fast you’re going!

  • Towel (in Transition) - To dry those tootsies before you put on your shoes.

  • Socks - If you’re not keen on blisters.

  • Some Nutrition - Banana, energy bar, gel or anything to keep those energy levels high.

  • Lots of Fitness

For The Competitor

These items will make you more competitive but are by no means needed

  • Bike Shoes - If you’re clipped in, it gives you that edge.

  • Bike Computer (and Power Meter) - To note how fast you’re steaming along!

  • Tri Bars - Clip-ons or a full TT bike to save those watts and get aero!

  • Aero Helmet - Same as above.

  • Lots of Fitness & Speed

You won’t need a race belt. You will be given a timing chip and we will write your name on your arm and leg. Stickers will be provided for your bike and helmet.
